Elena
Elena is the editorial pen name under which The Fine Print is written and edited. The name is shared by a small editorial team based in Japan and published by Relmea. We use one name so that every article is held to the same standard, and so that readers know whom to write to when something is wrong.
What Elena covers
- Visiting Japan — rail passes, eSIMs, pocket WiFi and the reservations you have to make before you land.
- Living in Japan — the contracts foreign residents sign in their first months: SIM, home internet, and the things that depend on a residence card and a bank account.
- Buying from Japan — Japanese shops that do not ship abroad, and the forwarding and subscription services that get the parcel to you anyway.
How Elena works
- Reads the official page in Japanese first, then compares it with the English page. Where the two differ — and they often do on cancellation, fees and eligibility — the article says so.
- Prints the date every price and condition was checked.
- Lists what could not be confirmed, instead of guessing.
- Writes for the reader who has to decide, not for the company selling the product. Every article names who it is not for.
What Elena will not write
- Personal experience she does not have. There are no first-hand reviews or testimonials on this site.
- Figures, awards or commission terms that cannot be confirmed on an official page.
- Anything that a payment would change. Affiliate commissions never decide what is included or recommended. See the disclosure.
